Stress can lead to medical issues such as fatigue, obesity and stroke. Wellness is the many things that you can do with your body to restore proper health and well-being. Wellness is the counter-measure for stress. Movement in the form of TAI CHI is an integrated approach that I incorporate into my practice if the client chooses to do so. Tai Chi has been around for centuries and was first practiced in China and it has gained popularity in the east and west for its physical, mental and emotional benefits. They include improved strength, proper balance, flexibility, reduced pain and stiffness, enhanced sleep, and greater awareness and calmness.
Though I use it for its martial arts application, what I learned along the way is the sense of discipline and renewed energy that can ward off depression and anxiety.
Tai Chi can be practiced anywhere and anytime and it is quite economical. It takes less than 7 minutes. Its movements are slow, gentle and yielding. It is a physical activity based on the principles of effortless breathing, rhythmic movement and weight equilibrium. Clients interested in this ancient art form will learn Mindfulness and Standing Meditation exercises so that one can become acutely aware of his or her body and what it is doing in the moment. Clients will also learn the 24 movements; each having energy of its own.
Having been a student of the martial arts for at least 3 years now, I can't ever imagine how I would ever go without!
